A California Style Home
For Project Lake Shore, our objective was to create main living spaces that would provide a sense of home for our West Coast clients, who recently relocated to Georgia. We strived to emulate the bright airiness one thinks of when dreaming of California beaches; therefore, the outdated, closed-off rooms had to go.
We tore down several walls to open up the kitchen and even absorbed an unused sitting room into the area, practically doubling the kitchen’s footprint. Part of the sitting room even went into an oversized walk-in pantry! We completely renovated the powder bathroom with a custom paneled vanity accompanied by a neutral wallpaper, and we brought much-needed drama to the front office with a wall of charcoal-painted built-ins.
Besides the kitchen, the other most dramatic change was the living room’s main fireplace wall. We closed off the top of the built-ins for a streamlined, recessed look as well as completely transformed the fireplace surround with vertical paneling paired with white marble and a stately angled natural stained oak surround. The layered textures incorporated into this California style home allow for the light, airy space to still feel warm, cozy, and inviting.
